With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I want to talk about our lips. To my new mamas out there, I know how hard it can be to keep your skin – including your lips – hydrated during and after baby.
The women body endures so many changes throughout pregnancy. Our hormone levels increase, causing the chemistry of our body to alter. Those who never experienced acne now has a face full of pimples, and women with luscious lips pre-pregnancy are running to the internet to find ways to prevent dry/chapped lips during pregnancy. I’ve teamed up with Carmex to share the benefits of moisturizing your lips and shared a few of my own tips for having moisturized lips during and after pregnancy.
I’ve used Carmex lip balms since the early 90s (can you believe they’ve been established for over 80 years). As a child, I enjoyed playing dress up with my sister and completing my look with the classic lip balm in a tube. Today, I use Carmex as a part of my skincare routine to moisturize my lips post pregnancy. Like many women, my body changed during and after pregnancy. I’m currently finding ways to reverse the dry skin that I’ve been experiencing and the other postpartum bodily changes due to pregnancy.
My body released the fluids that I retained throughout my pregnancy within the early weeks of my son’s life. I noticed that my face wasn’t as vibrant and my lips were chapped. Unfortunately, I did not focus on skincare throughout my pregnancy. I did not moisturize my lips routinely and was reaping the repercussions. I hope to help prevent someone from experiencing what I did.
Benefits of moisturizing lips:
- Our bodies retain liquid to support our babies’ development in utero, leaving the upper layers of our skin dehydrated. Moisturizing your lips supplements the moisture the lip would have received if it was hydrated.
- Moisturizing your lips protects it from the elements. During pregnancy, our body may respond differently to climate changes. Perhaps cool windy weather or dry climates are leaving your lips chapped. Adding Carmex lip balm to your lips will create a long-lasting moisture barrier that helps to soothe and protect your lips from the aforementioned climate conditions that can dry your lip during or after pregnancy.
- SPF protection from harsh sun rays – keeping another surface on your body safe from sunburn and long-term effects of exposure to the sun.
